Why do students attendMain Street High School?

Main Street High School, our students participate in a customized learning environment. We understand that not all students learn the same way. Our learning platform is designed to support students who are over-age for grade in middle school, or they do not have enough credits to graduate from high school on time.

Our students are able to catch up on credit hours to graduate quickly!

When a student is willing to work with us and remain focused on learning, the possibility for success is greater for them to catch up on credit hours to graduate quickly. When your child enrolls in a NorthStar Academy . . .
After they earn their high school diploma, they will have three pathways to success beyond high school–

1. Enrollment into a college or university.
2. Enlistment into a branch of the armed service.
3. Employment that is beyond minimum wages.

Dwayne Stewart, Principal of Main Street High, is a lifelong learner, and is passionate about social activism, mentoring, and helping young people.

Mr. Stewart is the founder of Change Makers Academy, a non-profit organization committed to changing the societal perception of inner-city males and dismantling the school to prison pipeline. He has led student missions to Port Au Prince Haiti, and launched the I Am Africa Experience across Johannesburg, South Africa and Ghana, West Africa immersing students in the customs and culture of the world's second largest and second most-populous continent.

Mr. Stewart began serving in the Osceola County School system convinced, that with the right support, every child can learn. The understanding that all students learn differently led him to acquire a 40-ft. school bus for a student-led conversion into a mobile classroom. The students spent their last semester building out the "skoolie" from ideation to renovation, and it now serves the community in census work, community read-alongs and food give-aways.

Mr. Stewart earned his B.S. degree in Secondary English Education from Florida Memorial College; his M.S. degree in Leadership from Nova Southeastern University; and is a Doctoral Candidate at Nova Southeastern University.

Mr. Stewart's passion for achievement is extended through the work and mission of his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. He enjoys traveling and spending quality time with his wife, Typhanie and two sons Adam and Aden.

A SECOND CHANCE!

"As the Coordinator of Special Education and ESOL Supports at Main Street High School, my job is to provide academic and instructional supports for both students and teachers. As a teacher in the school, I work with my students to ensure that they are making gains within their classes and moving toward the goal of graduating with a diploma.

The job that I do is particularly rewarding because I get to see my students grow and achieve their goals. The students, in turn, give me a feeling of purpose and motivation to be there for them as they look to their futures with hope and joy at what they have achieved and what they can continue to achieve."
